Katie King Ogden

Attorney

Katie is a real estate entitlement and land use attorney with Drenner Group, PC. Katie’s legal experience includes all aspects of real estate, including acquisitions and dispositions of real property, development of real property, real estate secured loans, and commercial leasing transactions. Katie’s current practice mainly focuses on assisting owner/developer clients in obtaining necessary municipal approval for their projects, in addition to related transactional matters, drawing on her knowledge of municipal and county ordinances, as well as state and federal law impacting property rights and the protection of entitlements.

Katie offers experience with the development processes and regulations in the City of Austin and many other jurisdictions in Central Texas. In those processes, she interacts with governmental technical and legal staff and confers with elected or appointed City Councils, County Commissioners’ Courts, Zoning and Planning Commissions, Historic Landmark Commissions, and Environmental Boards to pursue and obtain municipal approvals for, among other things, zoning, subdivision plats, right-of-way and alley vacations/abandonments, site development plans, variances, right-of-way and property acquisitions, and utility extensions. In addition, Katie’s practice includes offering experienced advice on development planning, expediting the development permit process, right-of-way condemnation, land use, and zoning recommendations, and evaluating existing entitlements and entitlements required to construct a proposed development.

Prior to joining Drenner Group, Katie served as the Chief of Staff for Texas State Senator Jeff Wentworth, as well as the Director and General Counsel of the Texas Senate Jurisprudence Committee. In these capacities, Katie worked closely with other legislative offices, government agencies, and interested parties on a wide variety of issues related to state government and the legislative process. In addition to her time at the Capitol, Katie has also worked as an associate attorney at Winstead, PC, and Drenner & Golden, Stuart, Wolff, LLC.

Since beginning her professional career, Katie has demonstrated a passion for the non-profit community in Austin. In addition to serving in various leadership roles for The Junior League of Austin, Katie has also served as a member of the Elizabeth Ann Seton Board, Seton’s The Fifty, and Dell Children’s Council. Katie is also a member of the Real Estate Council of Austin. She is a past member of the 2012 Austin Young Lawyers Association Leadership Academy and the 2009 Real Estate Council of Austin Leadership Development Class.

On a personal note, Katie and her husband, Chris, have three children, Bo, Ellie, and Parker. Katie is a 2006 graduate of The University of Texas School of Law (with Honors), and she holds a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas, where she served as Student Body President from 2002-2003.
