Wilson Capital’s 80-Story Skyscraper Plan Hits a Snag
Wilson Capital’s plan for the Wilson Tower, a 1,035-foot apartment high-rise in downtown Austin, has encountered a setback. During a January 23 meeting, the city’s Design Commission did not approve the current design, citing concerns about the building’s interaction with public space and pedestrian use. The commission emphasized that while the building is visually striking, it lacks sufficient public benefit. The developer will need to revise the design based on feedback before resubmitting it for approval. The 80-story tower, proposed for the site of Avenue Lofts, would include 450 market-rate apartments, a $6 million contribution to affordable housing, and ground-floor retail and dining space. If approved, the tower would surpass Texas’ current tallest buildings.
