Austinite MLB pitcher takes over downtown development project
Major League Baseball pitcher Huston Street and his mother, Janie Street, have purchased the Taco Cabana site at South Lamar and Riverside Drive in Austin, with plans to develop a mid-rise multifamily project under the company DukesStreet. Street, an Austin native and current San Diego Padres player, sees real estate development as part of his post-baseball career. The Streets acquired the site in February for an undisclosed amount, with the property valued at around $5.48 million. The project, called 211 South Lamar, was approved by the Austin City Council despite local opposition to its height and density. Construction is expected to begin in early 2015. Street is also exploring future real estate opportunities in Austin.
