Tiny Bar Bungalow May Complicate Plan for 53-Story Tower

While Austin’s Design Commission approved the project for the downtown density bonus program, the Historic Landmark Commission is reviewing the Bungalow structure, built in 1911 but heavily altered in 2010. Though the building contributes to the Rainey Street Historic District, city staff deem it unlikely to qualify as a landmark. The project still requires Austin City Council approval for its density bonus, balancing modern development with historic preservation concerns.
