East Austin Mixed-Use Project Underway at Old Arnold Oil Site

Transwestern Development Co. has begun construction on a 4.2-acre mixed-use project at East Sixth and Comal Streets, replacing the former Arnold Oil Co. site. The development will include a 94,500-square-foot office building, 1645 E. Sixth, and a 346-unit luxury apartment complex, The Arnold, with retail and dining options.

Located near Plaza Saltillo MetroRail station, the project reflects East Austin’s rapid gentrification, blending modern amenities with high-end dining. While the development promises to invigorate the area, some residents express concerns over rising property values and the loss of neighborhood character.
